Pic of the Week - Sunrise, Duck Point, Wilsons Promontory
The above image was made at sunrise at Duck Point, Wilsons Promontory National Park in Victoria, Australia. It was very cold and I was alone at this very secluded location. There was barely a breath of wind and the soft, warm sunrise seemed to linger. This slow movement of light and time only enhanced the feeling of being I experienced on that wondrous morning.
The image was made on a Hasselblad X-PAN camera and Hasselblad 30mm f5.6 Aspherical lens with Fuji Velvia 100 film.
I loved the way the warm sunrise illuminated the rock in the foreground and the clouds in the centre of the image, providing a sense of 3-dimensional space and great color contrast with the blue sky and water. The pink cloud reflection seemed to connect sky and water. I was careful to ensure that the composition balanced areas of smooth tonality and texture. A moderate Shutter Speed was enough to provide texture in the foreground water, connecting it with the rocks and sand on the right hand side of the image.
