Tree and Rocks_Central Victoria
I made this shot late Sunday morning at an old mining site near Campbells Creek in Central Victoria. While the image features a tree trunk and parts of the surrounding landscape, it is really an image that explores design elements and perspective. The tree trunk produces a diagonal line through the centre of the image that both splits the frame in two and challenges our sense of perspective. In reality the rock is between 3 and 4 meters behind the tree, but by employing a wide-angle lens (24mm focal length) and moving in very close to the tree the background appears to be both generous (in the sense of width) and close (in the sense of 2-dimensional space).
Processing was completed in Adobe Lightroom 2 and Adobe Photoshop CS3 where the image was rendered into black-and-white and toned with a subtle yellow (highlights) and blue (shadows) split tone.
