Low Light Photography_Erskine Falls
I made this image on Saturday afternoon while leading a Landscape Photography Workshop near Lorne on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. This particular image features Erskine Falls, around 9 km inland from Lorne in the Great Otway National Park. It’s a lovely, peaceful spot around 200 meters descent, down a fairly steep staircase, from the car park.
The day was overcast and the sheltered environment provided by the trees and cliffs overhead diffused much of the ambient light. This resulted in slow shutter speeds that, under normal conditions, would have required a tripod to prevent camera shake. Sadly, I recently sold my tripod and haven’t had the opportunity to replace it. I increased the camera’s ISO, employed Image Stabilisation (IS) and did my best to steady the camera. I’m happy with the results.
Processing of the original RAW file was conducted in Adobe Lightroom 2, prior to applying some local contrast changes in Adobe Photoshop CS3.
I will post several more shots from the shoot during the next week. I hope you enjoy them.
