Here's the second image from last weekend's photography workshop I ran in Chewton, Central Victoria. It's a straightforward close-up of a small bunch of leaves made at sunset with the aid of lovely warm backlight. I made use of my recently acquired Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro lens to allow me to move in closer and isolate the leaves from their surroundings.

I like the luminous quality of the leaves and their arrangement as a triad. In numerous societies, including the Minbari, three is a sacred number. For a composition to work it needs to make sense. It seems to me that the arrangement of the leaves produces a cohesive composition. And, as in most things, simplicity is best.

This is the second of four images, made over a 30-minute period within a few meters of each other, which I'll post over the next few days. I hope these four simple images, made from the bank of a small lake, demonstrate the opportunities for us all to see and record the beauty of our natural world.
