Here’s an image featuring Hopetoun Falls in the Great Otway National Park in Victoria, Australia. A very slow 4-second Shutter Speed was employed to provide an ethereal quality to the moving water. I had to stop the lens’s aperture right down to f22 to achieve the desired Shutter Speed.

Interestingly the vibrant greens and blues of the foliage and water in the original color transparency were somewhat overpowering. I prefer the simplicity of this black and white rendering achieved in Adobe Lightroom 2 with subtle warm/cool split toning applied in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Look out for images over the next few days from today’s excursion to Marysville and Warburton in Victoria’s Yarra Ranges. Marysville was devastated earlier this year by a horrendous bushfire. It was a sombre experience to visit the township, yet the surrounding landscape is bursting back to life. And that’s the very fact that I hoped to celebrate through my photography. Check back tomorrow for the first instalment.
