Here’s an image with a difference, though not what the title might suggest to some of you. Just before leaving the flat where our bride, Michelle, was getting ready before the wedding service, I noticed the light in the bathroom. In particular I noticed the quality of the artificial light in the shower recess. I asked Michelle to stand inside the shower recess so that the light behind her would provide a lovely, soft backlight. I feel it’s given the image a beautiful glow.

After employing Adobe Lightroom 2.0 to at first color correct the yellow/green color cast produced by the artificial light, I then opted for a black-and-white rendering. Adobe Photoshop CS4 was then utilized for final local tonal adjustments.

I’d like to think that this image proves that its possible to make interesting images anywhere and that the best images are often a result of those that precede them. In other words it was the more formal portraits, important in their own right, which allowed me to get my eye in and see the potential for a great image in a somewhat unusual setting. Thanks to Michelle for helping me push the envelope throughout the day.
