Black and White Infrared
Here’s another image following on from a conversation with Michelle and Ellen, two participants in a course I’m currently teaching, regarding how to apply contemporary digital techniques to rediscover a number of products and processes from the old film-based days. The motivation for today’s image is to re-visit the appearance achieved KODAK Black and White Infrared film.
The above original film-based image was made from a small boat, at dawn, in Myanmar (Burma). I love how the warmth of the subject contrasts with the cool blue of the background. The fog added a sense of mystery to the image, which is why I positioned the subject off centre.
The image below is a Black and White Infrared (like) treatment achieved in Adobe Camera RAW and Adobe Photoshop CS4. Thanks to Michelle and Ellen for their interest and inspiration.
