Church by the Sea, Iceland

A seaside church in rural Iceland on a lovely summer's evening

The above image was made in the wee hours of the morning at a church by the sea. I also photographed the community's graveyard, just behind the church. The light was soft and most of the contrast in the scene was inherent to the church itself. The position of the moon, directly above the centre of the church was serendipitous.

Photographing the landscape is one of the great joys of my life. I love watching the TV but, really, there's no comparison to being out there, in the great outdoors, photographing the transforming and transcendental nature of light. Now that's living!

Now a cautionary note for all landscape photographers. If ever you get the chance to visit Iceland be prepared to live, maybe like you've never lived before.
