Travel Photography - The Other Story

There are many opportunities awaiting us on our travels. Subject matter includes landscapes, nature, architecture, people, wildlife and weather. What's more the approach we take to our photography, both in camera and on the desktop, greatly affects the look of the images and the stories we tell.

But what of our traveling companions, do they not also deserve recognition? Don't they also play an important part in the story we tell?

During July 2011 I travelled with my friend, Dr. Joseph San Laureano, to Paris, Iceland and Greenland. I had met Joseph and his wife, Esther Briganti, while co-running a photography tour to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Antarctica during November 2010.

Of course its fun to make photos of your friends, particularly at significant moments in their lives. Certainly a photography trip to Iceland and Greenland includes many significant moments. And the opportunity to preserve those memories for me, Joseph, Esther and Joseph's dear mum, Amalia, was one I didn't want to miss?

So, next time you travel, it might well be worth your while taking this idea and making it into your own special mini project. You'll be glad you did.
