Midnight Cruise on Jokulsarlon Lagoon, Iceland

Tiny ice particles floating on the water's surface on a midnight zodiac cruise at Jokulsarlon lagoon IcelandCanon 5D Mark II camera and Canon 70-200mm f4 IS lens with Canon 1.4X Extender @ 280mm. Exposure Details: 1/500 second @ f8 ISO 800.

Where? - The Location

There we were my photo buddy, Joseph San Laureano, and I on a midnight zodiac cruise on Jokulsarlon lagoon in Iceland. The lagoon was full of icebergs of varying sizes and, as well as photographing some of the grander edifices, little details such as those above caught my attention.

What? - The Subject

I was drawn to these tiny ice fragments by the light which both illuminated and surrounded them. Light, color, texture, shape, interesting subject matter and timing are the elements that underpin this photo.

Why? - The Experience

So, whether its ice floating on the waters of a beautiful lagoon in Iceland or ripples on a lake near your own home photography has the ability to take us beyond the bounds of normality and help connect us with the beauty that lies on the edge of our everyday experience.
