Composition and a Frame Within a Frame
Composition is a major component underpinning the practice of photography. Color, shape, line, texture and rhythm are amongst the most widely known elements of composition.
This photo of a stairwell leading up to the top of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France features all of these elements of composition (albeit with color subtly applied to the black and white image), plus one more.
Frame Within A Frame
A great way to concentrate viewer attention the compositional technique known as frame within a frame is often employed to lead the eye, through the frame, towards the subject. As is evident in the photo above, this technique can also be used to produce a more three dimensional feel and, in some cases, to suggest a more mystical or spiritual end to a journey.
Make It Your Own
While interesting reading to improve your own photography it's important to make a point of incorporating the concept of a frame within a frame into some of your own photographs. And the sooner you do it the more likely you'll be able to remember it. Right!
